Wondering What’s Next After Requesting a Free Consultation?
If after exploring the “About TMS” section, listening to some patient stories, and taking the quiz, you feel that TMS Therapy may be right for you, your next step would be to contact us to schedule a free consultation. (Click the blue button). Here’s what you can expect from there.

1. NO COST CONSULTATION:
Answering questions and completing paperwork
The first person you will speak with is your patient consultant, who will review your history and explain aspects of of your TMS Treatment.
If you’d like to get started with the paperwork you may do so here.
Figuring our insurance
Your patient consultant will also explain treatment payment options including going over insurance criteria with you. Our office will coordinate with your health insurance provider to determine your benefits. Due to TMS’ FDA approval and efficacy, most major insurance providers will cover the cost of treatment. If you do not have insurance, we may be able to connect you with financing options to make your treatment more affordable.
Wondering if your insurance covers TMS? We can find out for you.

2. PRE-ASSESSMENT:
Figuring out if TMS is right for you
Next, you will meet with our psychiatrist, Dr. Schwartz for an evaluation which includes questions about your history and symptoms. If Dr. Schwartz determines that you are a candidate for TMS therapy and you are ready to move forward, he will create an individualized treatment plan.

3. FIRST APPOINTMENT:
Setting your specifics
Tailoring the procedures to your unique anatomy
Your first appointment will last a little longer than your subsequent sessions. Because it is important to determine how to most effectively administer your individual treatment plan, your first session may last up to an hour and half. During this session we will carefully identify the correct magnetic strength and optimal coil position for you.
Wondering how we determine the ideal strength of the magnet for your treatments?
Dr. Schwartz will start with a test to identify your motor threshold, which is the amount of magnetic field strength resulting in the movement of a patient’s right thumb. This test identifies the appropriate magnetic field strength to be used during your treatment, which is customized to deliver the correct treatment dose.

4. TMS TREATMENT:
What your typical sessions will be like
Sit and relax
During your treatment sessions, you will sit in a comfortable treatment chair in a private treatment room. (We have comprehensive COVID 19 Safety Measures in place.) You’ll remain awake and alert while the TMS therapy device delivers magnetic pulses to the specific areas of your brain known to regulate mood. Your treatment session will almost always last from 18-20 minutes.
During your session you can sit back, relax and take some time for yourself. Perhaps you’d like to read, play on your phone, watch TV or meditate. Feel free to bring your own earbuds/headphones (providing they are non-metallic).
Wondering what the magnetic pulses feel like?
The sensation of the magnetic pulses might best be described as gentle tapping on your scalp. Most of our patients say that the pulses take some getting used to, but they aren’t usually painful. (If you are feeling any discomfort, let us know. We’ll make adjustments.
